Yah-Ta-Hey - A Gallery of fine Native American Art

About Yah-Ta-Hey

Located in downtown New London, the Yah-Ta-Hey Gallery has collected Native American works of art and jewelry from throughout the United States. Not only are the works of major artists on display, but the artists themselves often accompany the special exhibitions regularly featured by the gallery.

If you are interested in the art and culture of the first american people, be sure to come by and say hello.

Yah - Ta - Hey is the Indian Way of saying hello. Cheryl and Dorothy Noga welcome you to their shop full of American Indian crafts carefully chosen on buying trips to the reservations of the Cochiti, Jemez, Santo Domingo, Zuni, Navaho, and Taos.

American Indian jewelry, their specialty, is fascinating as well as beautiful. Turquoise, prominent in Indian jewelry since before Christ,
is a symbol of protection from evil. It is also believed to have the life giving power of the sky and water.

The beadwork of the Santo Domingo tribe is ancient art. Pieces of turquoise and coral are drilled and strung on a cord. They are then rolled or ground to the desired shape and size.

The Navajos create a distinctive effect in their jewelry by overlaying silver work with an inlay of chips of turquoise and coral.

Experts in cutting and setting stones, the Zunis create clusters, delicate needlepoint, and inlays of turquoise, coral, jet, and shell.
